Marketing and Communications Full-Time
Southeast Missouri State University's Marketing and Communications department is seeking a skilled and creative Web Developer. The Web Developer will be responsible for designing, coding, and modifying websites from layout to function, ensuring a seamless user experience. This role requires a combination of programming skills, an eye for design, and an understanding of user experience.
Primary Responsibilities - Develop and maintain SEMO's website, ensuring a consistent look and feel across all pages
- Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code by using best software development practices
- Create website layouts and user interfaces using standard HTML/CSS practices, integrating data from various back-end services and databases, and ability to write clean, maintainable code
- Collaborate with designers, content creators, and other stakeholders to match visual design intent
- Optimize websites for maximum speed and scalability
- Ensure website functionality and stability across devices (desktop, mobile, tablet) and browsers
- Conduct website testing and debugging to ensure high-quality performance and technical health
- Provide ongoing website maintenance and stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and industry trends to apply them to operations and activities
- Enthusiastically collaborate with team members to achieve University goals, create effective campaigns, and elevate the SEMO brand
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in web development, computer science, information technology, or a related field
- Proven experience as a web developer with a strong portfolio of successful web projects
- Experience with front-end development web programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Velocity and with frontend frameworks/libraries
- Experience with back-end languages and frameworks such as PHP, Python, and Node.js
- Knowledge of content management systems (CMS) like Cascade
- Knowledge of web analytics and tracking tools like Google Analytics
- Knowledge of responsive web design, user-experience design, and cross-browser compatibility
- Knowledge of SEO principles
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards as described in WCAG 2.0
- Understanding of databases (SQL/NoSQL) and experience with version control systems
- Familiarity with web security principles
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
